Specially selected by the team here at WG, we are delighted to bring you this special single cask release from the Ardmore distillery, labelled here with its Gaelic spelling by the fine folk at the Single Malts of Scotland. Distilled in 2009 and bottled after 8 years of maturation in a cask that previously held Laphroaig, this dram starts mellow and fudgey to start on the nose, with a hit of smoky rashers of bacon, cloves and white chocolate. To taste it is wonderfully creamy, with softly smoked malted barley, white-wine poached pears, moving to spiced (cloves again) and a hint of honey. With water, the peaty aromas are opened up, with a scent of an old chimney or hearth. We think this is a fine example of the Ardmore spirit, a harmonious balance of barley, peat smoke and wood.
