After a long period of closure, Benromach was purchased and reopened in 1998 by independent bottlers Gordon & MacPhail who in turn decided to revert the distillery back to it's classic style, with just a touch of smoke. To celebrate their 20th anniversary milestone this year, this limited 1998 vintage has been composed of both first fill ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks which were laid down in its first year. Rich and rounded it boasts aromas of fruitcake, demerara sugar and dark chocolate with underlying notes of citrus and warming spices. Stewed raisin and apple on the palate with toffee and ginger and more of that dark chocolate. A few drops of water brings out baked plum and a light touch of smoke which lingers on to the finish. A stunning example of this classic Speyside distillery.
