Selected for the Single Malts of Scotland range, this is a new release from the Caol Ila distillery, matured for 8 years in a sherry butt and bottled at a natural strength of 61.3%. Starting with fresh and vibrant aromas, there is a nose-drying scent of sea air, seaweed and brine, cutting against smouldering peat smoke that has an industrial, dirty edge to it. The palate is again drying, with a clean maritime peat smoke flavour that is cut with the signature lemony, lime citrus note. A touch of herbs and a creamy flavour comes through on the strong and powerful finish. Remarkably drinkable for its hefty strength, this is a fantastic example of a spirit-forward Caol Ila.
